An amazing musical journey presented by the International Cello Ensemble led by David Cohen and his students (London – Mons).
We have the chance to study with a fantastic musician and cellist, David Cohen. Young cellists come from many different countries to study with him. This year no less than 7 countries are represented in both of his classes. We would like to use this richness and diversity to create this cello ensemble which gathers all of David’s students.
This project will be based on the exchange between Trinity Laban and Arts² (Belgium). There will be two workshop sessions in each college ending with a concert.
We would like to explore repertoire from baroque to contemporary-experimental music. The creative aim of the project is to arrange orchestral music for a cello ensemble: create a DIFFERENT approach of standard works through THE SAME instrument.

COLAB 2017
Firstly, this project is an exchange between two cello classes. Collaboration with other international students could bring an enormous creative potential to this ensemble and to each student. Discovering a passion and a way of working from other musicians (our peers) are incredibly important for us in order to feed our own artistic inspiration.
We will play two new pieces composed by two very talented young composers : Eliott Delafosses and Anandi Casanova. Opening our minds to contemporary-experimental music is also essential nowadays and composers will be able to work on their piece in details with the ensemble. The composers will start writing the piece using the two concepts: SAME & DIFFERENT / SPACE & TIME.
Moreover, playing in a conductor-less ensemble will force everybody to listen to each other. Creating a chamber music experience is one of the most important goal of this project.

Overall, this Cello Ensemble is a unique opportunity to share and play DIFFERENT music styles around the SAME instrument, the cello.
